The role of Phoebe Buffay may have catapulted Lisa Kudrow to fame but the actress insists it wasn’t always easy playing the “Friends” character.
Kudrow appears on an episode of Kevin Nealon’s YouTube series “Hiking With Kevin”, available Thursday.

In a first look at the interview, Kudrow says of Buffay: “I had played dumb girls [before], but it wasn’t really me. I feel like, ‘S**t, I tricked ’em at the audition.’
“I was the only one who could cope with the audition process and that’s how I got it, I think. So I had to work hard at being Phoebe. And then, like, third season in, I was struggling so much.”
Her co-star Matt LeBlanc then saved the day by offering some words of advice.
Kudrow shares, “He went, ‘You’re her. Relax. You got it. You’ve been doing this f**king character for three years. You’re working too hard. That’s your problem: You don’t need to work as hard. Relax.’ And he was right!”
