Chance the Rapper’s quest for success in the music industry is only rivalled by his quest for Kirsten Corley Bennett.
Chance appeared on Tuesday’s episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and talked about his wife.
“My mom worked at a real estate agency with her mom,” Chance, 26, recalled. “Her daughters love to dance so they did a choreographed dance at this real estate party that I was at when I was nine. I saw her dancing and I was like, ‘Let’s get married!’”
He said “Since before I was successful, she was my girlfriend. If I’m successful now then yes, pre-success.” Chance first shared the story of his love in a series of March tweets, days before the two walked down the aisle.
“I really shouldn’t even say ‘locked eyes’ cos really, I was just staring at her; as she and her girls were conquering this choreography and mastering the art of lip-syncing in a way even the most professional performers have yet to accomplish,” he wrote of their first encounter at nine years old.
“16 years later it’s happening… I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny.”
Chance not only warmed the hearts of “Ellen” fans but he also brought them to their feet. He arrived at the day-time talk show with his collaborator Smino for a performance of “Eternal”. The song is featured on Chance’s debut studio album The Big Day.
Chance and his wife welcomed their first child, a daughter named Kensli, in 2015. Earlier this month, the couple announced the arrival of their second daughter Marli.
