She The North! Bianca Andreescu is the first Canadian in history to win a tennis Grand Slam singles tournament, beating out Serena Williams during the U.S. Open women’s final just a few days ago.
The 19-year-old has become a household name across Canada and south of the border, appearing on “Good Morning America”, “Live with Kelly and Ryan” and most recently the “Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon”, where she revealed — in the now viral moment — that she had been waiting to hear from fellow Canadian Drake following her big win.
While catching up with the tennis superstar in studio, she tells ET Canada’s Cheryl Hickey that her wish came true this morning.
“He did message me last night and I woke up this morning with the biggest smile on my face and I actually just replied to him, thinking really hard on what to say,” she shares.
“He was left on seen for a little bit hope he didn’t get too pissed. I’m kidding but yeah, that’s super cool I am a huge fan of him.”
Andreescu walked away from the U.S. open smiling from ear to ear, but it was Serena Williams’ post-news conference that made headlines and had some tennis fans calling her “unsportsmanlike”.
“I heard some comments on that, but I do agree with her. I don’t think she played her best tennis,” the 19-year-old admits.
“But on my side, I think I played really well. I don’t think that loss will do anything to her cause she’s still a 23-time Grand Slam champion. I still feel she’s not satisfied and striving for more.”
