Charlize Theron will portray Megyn Kelly in “Bombshell”, but how does the former Fox News personality feel about the Oscar-winning actress playing her?
Kelly answered that exact question when she was approached by the Daily Mail, revealing her thoughts on Theron’s casting in the film about the sex scandal involving the cable news channel’s founder Roger Ailes.
“She seems smart, seems like a good mom,” said Kelly, 48, of Theron, 44, “so I could do worse.”
According to the Mail, Kelly was “surprised” to hear that Oscar buzz is already surrounding the film, which also stars Margot Robbie as Fox News producer Kayla Pospisil and Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson. It was the latter’s allegations against Ailes that led to his dismissal from the right-leaning news channel he launched.
Kelly admitted that she may or may not watch the film. “I’m going to let someone who loves me watch it first and tell me if I should see it or not,” she said.
Kelly was hired by NBC in 2017 only to be fired the following year over some controversial comments she made about the use of blackface in Halloween costumes, and she remains a controversial figure. In a recent interview, however, Theron said she approached playing Kelly with “empathy.”
“I didn’t know how complicated her situation was,” Theron said in an interview with Variety. “I think for a lot of people, they didn’t understand why she just didn’t speak up.”
Theron added: “She was in a complicated place, and as a human being, I have empathy for that. And I don’t think a lot of people truly understood that.”
“Bombshell” is set to be released in December 2019.
