Louis Tomlinson has taken on one of the most popular songs to date and fans are loving it.
The former One Direction singer performed at the Coca Cola Music Experience Festival in Madrid on Saturday, surprising the audience with a cover of The Killer’s 2003 hit “Mr Brightside”.
The reaction from fans on Twitter has been explosive, with some even calling for an official recording and release of the cover.
“I need a studio version on ‘Mr. Brightside’,” one fan wrote.
“I will never be able to listen to the original version of ‘Mr Brightside’ the same knowing this cover exists. Louis’ version is now the only version I know,” another fan said.
Also performing at the festival was Tomlinson’s former bandmate, Liam Payne. He took to Twitter to congratulate the “Two of Us” singer on his “first solo headline gig”.
One fan even caught a video of Payne giving Tomlinson a shout-out during his set on Friday night.
“Louis is hiding out there, somewhere,” he said. “We both discussed that we forgot to wish Niall [Horan] a happy birthday.”
He and the audience then sang happy birthday as Payne recorded it.
Meanwhile, we’re still holding out hope for a One Direction reunion.
