Kanye West’s Sunday Service has become a pop culture phenomenon but the rapper originally started it as a way “to heal himself”.
While visiting “The View”, West’s wife Kim Kardashian West spoke about when he first started the gospel sessions.
“Kanye started this, I think, just to heal himself,” Kardashian revealed. “It was a real personal thing, and it was just friends and family, and he has had an amazing evolution of being born again and being saved by Christ. People always ask, ‘Well, what are you worshiping?’ Or, ‘What is this?’ It is a Christian service, like a musical ministry. They talk about Jesus and God.”
The beauty mogul did clarify that it isn’t a proper church, but more of a musical ministry with guest pastors from time to time.
“For the most part, it’s just a musical ministry,” she said. “[Kanye] doesn’t have his 501(c)(3) yet to make it an official church, but it is for God and it is a Christian church.”
She added, “It started off healing for him and it’s become something that he really wants to share for everybody else.”
West has recently started taking his Sunday Service on the road with performances in Chicago and Dayton, Ohio.
