Dana McKinlay and Stewart Dowd had the wedding of a lifetime, thanks to Newfoundland musician Alan Doyle.

The P.E.I. couple, who tied the knot over the weekend, spent the 582 days leading up to the wedding sharing one post per day about their lives to social media, with Doyle’s music as their backdrop, all with the goal of having him play during their ceremony.

Amazingly, McKinlay and Dowd’s plan worked, as Doyle heard about the project and surprised the couple by crashing their wedding and serenading them with his song “Take Us Home”.

“I heard the strumming of the guitar, and all of a sudden I looked over and I just like, my eyes are fooling me,” McKinlay told the CBC.

“That was an absolutely unbelievable moment,” Dowd added. “I was actually the last person in the entire place to notice that he was there, and I actually had someone go, ‘Stewart, turn around’, and then Alan Doyle was there. I just absolutely lost it. It was unbelievable.”

Doyle also gifted the couple a new, autographed guitar to celebrate their union.
