Drake is being permitted to build fences higher than the city bylaws usually permit for his Toronto mansion.
The “God’s Plan” rapper is currently building a luxury mansion in Toronto. He was looking to build fences beyond the approximately 6-and-a-half foot tall limit, citing security concerns.
“The amount of people that try to come onto this property during the day and at night is very, very significant,” Brad Rafauli of the Ferris Rafauli Architectural Design Build Group told a community council on Monday. “Security is really left in his hands.”
The mansion boasts a number of fences, walls and columns ranging between approximately 10 to 14.5 feet. Drake has spent more than $1 million on 20-foot cedar trees to line them.
“There was very little opposition,” Jaye Robinson, from the community council said. “There’s nothing lovelier than a whole row of beautiful trees, so we’re very impressed with the actual investment in trees on this particular property.”
Only one neighbour is known to have lodged a complaint, arguing the “barrier wall” casts a large shadow and sets a bad precedent.
