It’s safe to say that Bachelor Nation was shocked to find out that Peter Weber had been chosen over fan-favourite Mike Johnson to be the next “Bachelor”.
However, no one was as surprised as Johnson, who revealed on the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast with former “Bachelorette” stars Rachel Lindsay and Ali Fedotowsky-Manno that he was “100 per cent in talks to be the next ‘Bachelor’.”
“I 100 per cent wanted to be the ‘Bachelor’. Reasons being: One, I do want to find a wife. Two, it was bigger than me and I wanted to represent for all people of colour,” the 31-year-old revealed.
“Also, talking about people of colour, they need to have an Asian ‘Bachelor’, they need to have an Indian ‘Bachelor’. They need to have other people outside of just black and white. And so I want to speak on that as well. But I did audition to be the Bachelor. And I did 100 per cent want to be the ‘Bachelor’.”
When asked about his initial reaction to not being selected as the reality show’s next leading man, the “Bachelor in Paradise” star shared that he “was sad” about the situation.
“I was annoyed when I very first found out,” he added. “But then by the end of the night, I wasn’t annoyed no more because I was appreciative and thankful that they told me no right then and there because now I could focus on myself and I’m just blessed because I know I’m gonna find my wife and find my claim.”
Although he may not have found love down in Mexico or with “Bachelorette” Hannah Brown, Johnson did have Demi Lovato as an admirer and it appears as though things are heating up between the duo.
After rumours swirled that the two had gone on a date together, Johnson revealed that he and Lovato had met more than once.
“I think she’s amazing. She’s incredibly humble. When her and I are together… oh my god,” he said.
“When Demi and I are together, it’s laughter and we talk about real s**t,” Johnson continued. “She’s a down-to-earth woman and I respect it so much. She’s just a really humble, really cool, really fun, down-to-earth person.”
As for what’s next for their budding relationship, Johnson added: “My status of the relationship with Demi and I are that we are two people exploring each other.”
