The 2019 Emmy Awards were supposed to be hostless, but as the show began none other than Homer Simpson hit the stage.

“The Simpsons” patriarch in all his yellow glory made a quick appearance telling the audience, “This has been my impossible dream; if it can happen to me then you!”

That was right before a cartoon piano sent Homer crashing through the stage. “D’oh!” he exclaimed.

Next, it was Anthony Anderson’s turn as he ran around yelling, “We need somebody out there to rescue this thing!”

“What we need is an Emmy winner,” Anderson said. “Somebody who can talk about the power of television.”

And just the man for the challenge appeared, Bryan Cranston came to the rescue.

“I was 13-years-old, and sitting in front of the television on the day it opened up a universe of possibilities,” Cranston said recalling the moment he watched Neil Armstrong land on the moon. “I could be anyone. I could go anywhere – even Albuquerque.”

Fox recently acquired the Emmy Awards and made the most of the hostless opening.
