Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith once staged an intervention for their son Jaden Smith.
The family talked about the event on the most recent episode of Facebook Watch’s “Red Table Talk”. The “Aladdin” star said his family called him “Pudgemuffin” on a recent vacation because he would eat five muffins in the morning and wash it down with a vodka lunch.
That reminded Jada of a sit-down they had with Jaden over his eating habits. “Will and I had a bit of an intervention with Jaden because he’s a vegan now, but we realized he wasn’t getting enough protein,” she explained. “So he was wasting away.”
“He just looked drained, he was just depleted, he wasn’t getting the nutrients,” Jada continued. “There was even a little grayness to his skin,” Will added. “We got really nervous. But you’re definitely looking better now.”
Jaden explained how his struggles with maintaining a vegan diet compelled him to switch to vegetarianism. “I also just wanna say that I’m vegetarian, that I’ve tried to be vegan,” Jaden shared. “I’m vegetarian, you know, I’ve tried to eat vegan meals.”
“I’ll go vegan for a week or so but for the past year I’ve been vegetarian,” Jaden continued. I was just eating like two meals a day… maybe one.” Following the intervention, the family decided as a whole to start eating healthier.
