Famed tennis star Serena Williams sat down for a conversation with Guru Gowrappan, CEO OF Verizon Media, and Julia Boorstin, entertainment and media correspondent at CNBC, in a panel for Advertising Week New York, currently underway in the Big Apple.
Asked about her eventual retirement from the sport, Williams was met with a round of applause and laughter from the audience when she joked that she plans to “transfer out, you know, in 20 years, not anytime soon.”
Williams, 37, also talked about her clothing brand, Serena, and her new venture firm Serena Ventures, admitting that “we are literally just starting.”

Discussing her foray into fashion, Williams shared how thrilled she was when the brand made it into New York Fashion Week, and displayed her championship competitiveness by revealing that her first thought after getting into NYFW was, “I just got into New York Fashion Week, okay, how do I get into Milan?”
She also outlined the driving force behind her fashion brand: “Changing the way you feel when you put on our outfit, you want to feel sexy, you want to feel confident, and you want to feel sure,” she added.
As for Serena Ventures, she shared her underlying philosophy. “We want to stand up for what we feel is right, and we want to empower people to stand up for what they feel is right as well,” she explained, adding that “my main goal is to get rid of the word exclusive, and bring in the word inclusive.”
