Billy Joel is getting his chance to shine on the small screen.
Following the success of music-based biopics like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Rocketman”, Joel looks to be the next legendary musician to receive a dramatized telling of their story.
MGM Television and Universal Music Publishing Group are working on an anthology series dubbed a scripted “arc-thology.” The series will be called “Scenes From an Italian Restaurant” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Each episode will be based on lyrics of his hits and populated by characters from his songs. These include the Stranger, the Piano Man, Mama Leone and Sgt. O’Leary.
“This series is going to focus less on Billy’s life and more on the stories inside his catalogue of classic songs,” MGM TV president of development and production Steve Stark said.
Joel and his music team will provide input as the series takes his music in a new direction.
