Carrie Ann Inaba recently revealed she’d been diagnosed with lupus, and the co-host of Global‘s “The Talk” opened up about living with the disease during a Thursday appearance on “Live With Kelly and Ryan”.
“I was recently diagnosed with lupus, I was actually told,” Inaba told hosts Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Ripa.
“It’s so weird. I was diagnosed with autoimmune six years ago but my doctor didn’t tell me I had lupus,” she continued. “I was having a colonoscopy and I saw my chart [read] lupus and I was like, ‘This is not my chart,’ and they were like, ‘You have lupus.’”
As Inaba said, “My doctor had forgotten to tell me.”
The diagnosis, she told the hosts, has led her to make some significant changes in her life.
“I quit Diet Coke,” Inaba shared, revealing that she’s also forced herself to spend less time outside.
“I stopped going in the sun because when you have lupus you’re allergic to UV light, which I didn’t know, so I was causing my own flare-ups,” she said, admitting that’s been particularly difficult.
“I’m from Hawaii,” explained the “Dancing With the Stars” judge. “That’s what we do.”
