Rob Garrison, best known for playing Tommy in “The Karate Kid” and its YouTube spinoff “Cobra Kai”, has passed away at 59 after struggling with numerous health issues.
A representative for the late actor tells ET Canada that Rob was “a great person and ambassador to ‘The Karate Kid’ legacy. His performance in Season 2 of ‘Cobra Kai’, being his last, was simply amazing and he stole the episode. He will be missed by me and everyone he encountered.”
His rep also says that, per Garrison’s family, he died Friday morning at a hospital in West Virginia. His passing wasn’t sudden, as he’d been in the hospital for more than a month dealing with kidney and liver issues that led his organs to shut down. The family is currently working on funeral arrangements.
In addition to his “Karate Kid” role, Garrison appeared in numerous films and TV series, including “St. Elsewhere”, “Coach”, “MacGyver”, “Columbo”, “Iron Eagle” and was even featured in two episodes of iconic Canadian drama “The Littlest Hobo”.
Following news of Garrison’s passing, “Cobra Kai” showrunner Jon Hurwitz and wrestler Frankie Kazarian shared their condolences on social media.
