On Friday night’s season premiere of “Hawaii Five-0”, fans learned they’d be saying goodbye to conspiracy theorist-turned Five-0 member Jerry Ortega, with TVLine confirming that actor Jorge Garcia is exiting the show as it enters its 10th season.
In the episode, Jerry — recuperating after being shot by Azra Hassan — revealed that he had decided to take a break from the task force and write that book he’s been contemplating that connects the sinking of the Titanic to the Federal Reserve.
However, TVLine reports that Garcia won’t be gone for good, with his role downgraded from series regular to recurring, meaning Jerry will be popping in on an as-need basis.
“I’m grateful for my time on ‘Hawaii Five-0’,” Garcia told TVLine. “I loved getting to return to the islands, and creating a character that connected with so many people. Playing Jerry was a blast, and I look forward to popping in again to play with my TV ohana.”
The former “Lost” star first appeared on the show as a guest star in the show’s fourth season, and quickly became a fan favourite in what became a recurring role. He was upgraded to series regular in season six.
“Jorge was a breath of fresh air from the very moment he joined the cast, and fans immediately took to Jerry’s quirkiness as well as his kindness,” added “Five-0” showrunner Peter M. Lenkov. “There will always be a place for Jorge and Jerry on ‘Hawaii Five-0’, and while we obviously wish Jorge the very best, we will sincerely miss him very much.”
