Lil Nas X has been experiencing huge success thanks to his crossover hit “Old Country Road”, but one of his older tracks has captured the attention of Fiona Apple.
That’s because the rapper’s 2018 mixtape Nasarati includes a track titled “Kim Jong,” which utilizes a sample taken from Apple’s “Every Single Night” off her 2012 album The Idler Wheel.
In a recent interview with New York Magazine in advance of her upcoming album, Apple discussed turning down a request from Panic! At the Disco to sample “Every Single Night”.
However, there was apparently one part of the interview that writer Rachel Hunter didn’t include in her piece, leading Apple to post a video on Instagram.
“One thing that the lovely Rachel Handler didn’t mention that I did say in the interview which I would just like to say now is that Lil Nas X — you’re probably really great, but you used my song ‘Every Single Night,’ too,” she says in the video.
“You sampled that song, too, in a song called ‘Kim Jong Un,’ I think,” she adds. “And, um, hey — where’s my money, you cute little guy? Where’s my money?”

Responding to Apple’s comments, Lil Nas X tweeted out, “me & fiona apple should do something together for my album.” An idea Apple has taken to.
“My friend Zelda just told me that Lil Nas X tweeted that you would like to do something with me? I would love that! This is such a good ending to this little story. I would love that,” she said. “I’m not going on social media anymore, by the way, so I’ll get in touch with you personally. Bye.”
