Ellen DeGeneres is fully behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the royal couple’s recently launched lawsuit against British tabloid The Mail on Sunday.
During a recent episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, she welcomed polo player Nacho Figueras — who, like DeGeneres, is a personal friend of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“You and I feel very strongly in support of what’s happening right now to protect themselves, because I met them through you, like I said, and I learned just how much scrutiny that they’re under all the time,” she said.
Figueras agreed, describing Harry as a “wonderful man” who “cares about making the world a better place.”
He also praised the former “Suits” star. “Then he found Meghan, who is an incredible girl,” he continued. “She gave up all of the things that she had to marry this man that she loves, which is great and people think of it like, ‘Oh, how easy it is for you, girl, to go marry this guy,’ but nobody knows all the very hard things that go with that.”
He added: “To me, the most surprising thing is that media and even some people are not seeing that these are heroes. We should be treating them as heroes. These guys are taking their time to make the world a better place, and they’re all fighting for us. Instead of us praising them, and loving them, and cheering them up, we are attacking them. So, it’s a shame.”
Earlier in the week, DeGeneres sent her support to the couple on Twitter, insisting that not only is she proud to call them her friends, “I’m even more proud of them for finally saying enough is enough.”
The episode was filmed the day before a second lawsuit from Prince Harry was launched against the Sun and Daily Mail over phone hacking allegations. At the time, only the Duchess of Sussex’s lawsuit against The Mail On Sunday was public knowledge.
