Jessie Reyez Takes Aim At U.S. Immigration Laws In ‘Far Way’ Music Video

Jessie Reyez will not be silenced in her new music video for “Far Away”.

The Canadian-born singer of Colombian parents, Reyez has something to say about America’s controversial immigration laws. Reyez, 28, released the music video for “Far Away” on Friday and it greatly touches on the issue.

Reyez looks traumatized in the visuals after her partner are captured in a violence ICE raid. The two reunite at the end of the video, as do a number of other couples, but they are all contained in narrow cages.

“I see myself in those that are being wrongfully persecuted,” she told CBS News. “I see my dad anytime I see people disrespecting a Latino because they can’t speak English properly. I see those things.”

“I wanted to make it as potent a visual as possible,” Reyes concluded. “So it can be a catalyst in your brain.”
