It’s official: Maggie Greene is returning to the fold with the announcement that actress Lauren Cohan will be rejoining “The Walking Dead”.

As TVLine reports, the news was revealed during the show’s panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday, with Cohan herself making a surprise appearance onstage during the session.

That wasn’t the only news to come out of “The Walking Dead” panel, which also brought about the announcement that the show has been renewed for an 11th season (which will be the season in which Cohan will return as a series regular).

“’The Walking Dead’ burst out of the gate 10 years ago as a genre show that had all the character depth of a top-tier prestige drama,” AMC president Sarah Barnett said in a statement to Variety. “And now 10 years later — led by the brilliant Angela Kang and fuelled by one of the most consistently talented casts in television — this phenomenon is flourishing creatively, with critics and audiences embracing its reset. We’re delighted to welcome back Lauren Cohan, she has meant so much to this show and its passionate, global fanbase, who are in for a fantastic ride over the coming months.”

Meanwhile, rumour has it that viewers will catch a brief glimpse of Maggie at the end of the show’s 10th season, which debuts this weekend.

Cohan joined the show in its first season, becoming a series regular in the second. Her character, Maggie Greene, was last seen in the ninth season after she reportedly left the show over a contract dispute. She went on to star in ABC’s “Whiskey Cavalier”, which was cancelled after one season.

Season 10 of “The Walking Dead” kicks off Sunday, Oct. 6.
