Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn’t see any contradiction between being a Republican and being an environmentalist.

The actor and for governor of California was on “The Howard Stern Show” on Monday, and talked about the current Republican Party’s climate change denial.

“What the new Republican Party doe, and how they’ve veered off the Republican principles is their problem not mine,” he said. “I stayed true to the Republican principles, which is, you take care of the Earth, you take care of the environment.”

Schwarzenegger pointed out that it was actually Republican U.S. President Ronald Reagan who who created California’s Air Resources Board which has helped the state reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25 per cent.

He also talked about meeting 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg, describing how impressed he was by her.

“She really is a great, great asset,” he said. “She’s a great communicator. She gives feisty speeches.”

Also in the interview, Schwarzenegger talked about getting older and approaching death, explaining that he is not afraid of death, he’s just “p***ed off about it.

“When you have a life like we have,” he said, “and then one day it’s over, I mean that really p***es me off.”
