Lilly Singh Offers Justin Trudeau A Gift Basket In Light Of Blackface Controversy

Pictures of Justin Trudeau in blackface have made their rounds, including on late-night.

Does that mean that everyone is ready to forget and forgive? This is what late-night Lilly Singh and two adorable twin girls have to say about it…

Singh definitely took a late-night approach to dealing with the topic and offered Trudeau a gift basket, complete with face wipes, a new phone (pre-loaded with the “whitest skin tone available” emojis), a brown crayon (for colour matching), and a picture of Aladdin (according to the late-night host, he might have been a few hues off).

Jessi Cruickshank from “New Mom, Who Dis?” approached Trudeau’s blackface by getting twin girls to ask him the hard questions. But before she did so, Cruickshank asked Trudeau about an apparent Melania Trump smooch and whether or not he has a dad bod.

Turns out that Trudeau is not giving the first lady of the United States that type of attention, and the misleading photo is just a combination of a French upbringing and sneaky camera angles. Also, turns out Trudeau can bashfully admit that he has a real good bod.

But then it was time to talk about the seriousness of blackface.

One of the twins asked our Prime Minister, “Why did you paint your face brown?” Trudeau let out an “Ooooh” before giving his response. Trudeau once again accepted all accountability and said he learned his lesson, albeit the hardest of ways.

As natural interviewers, one of the girls asked the followup question, “Did you paint your nose and hands brown?” Trudeau said he did, and once again apologized for his unacceptable actions.

Is Canada ready to forgive? We’ll get an indication on October 21.
