The school of a 10-year-old California girl who caught the attention of Eric Church is now $10,000 richer thanks to the country star’s generosity.
As People reports, Church was performing in San Francisco earlier this month when he saw youngster Makenna Wallace near the stage, holding a sign asking him to sponsor her for her school’s jog-a-thon fundraiser.
Upon seeing the sign, Church asked that it be passed to the stage.
“I will sponsor you for your jog-a-thon,” he proclaimed, raising up the sign before telling Wallace from the stage, “I like your shades, by the way,” pointing out she was wearing sunglasses similar to the ones he wears in concert.
The story continued after the show, with local newspaper The Union Democrat reporting that Church gifted Wallace’s school with a $10,000 cheque.
The $10K, notes the newspaper, will go toward building a new playground at the school, adding to the $735 she had already earned by jogging three miles.
“If I could say anything to him I would say, thank you, you’re my hero, stuff like that,” Wallace told The Union Democrat of Church’s generous donation. “I was just like, ‘Oh my gosh this is really happening? I was really shaky. I was happy, nervous, it was awesome.”
