Will Smith received a pleasant surprise on his birthday.
The actor celebrated his 51st birthday on Sept. 25 by attending a private screening of “Hustlers”, starring Jennifer Lopez.
Smith was hosting the event when he was interrupted with a serenade by longtime friend Stevie Wonder. The 69-year-old music legend sang a rendition of his 1981 hit “Happy Birthday”.
Smith documented the epic surprise in an Instagram video, being the Instagram extraordinaire that he is.
The “Gemini Man” star addressed the video to Lopez, commenting on how Wonder’s visit is a crazy coincidence since the musician is mentioned in the film.
“So Jennifer, this is crazy,” Smith starts the video. “So, we’re in the movie, and this is a really weird story. It’s my birthday, and we’re in the movie, and it’s the scene where your character is talkin’ ’bout Stevie Wonder was in the champagne room and Stevie walks in. They pause the movie, and Stevie walks in and sings me ‘Happy Birthday’…So we just wanted to send this to you.”
So, did Stevie Wonder actually appear in the champagne room? (“Hustlers” is based on a true story).
The musical genius laughed when Smith asked him the question that’s been on everyone’s mind.
Wonder replied, “If I was there, I’ll never show, I’d never say.”
The singer who’s been blind since he was a baby, continued to joke, “Because if ever I’m asked about it, I can say, ‘Well, I didn’t see where I was.’”
Smith included a review on the stripper drama captioning the video, “P.S. @jlo, hustlers was fantastic.”
