It turns out Rihanna’s big Vogue cover story this month was something of a last-minute ordeal.
In the big profile on the singer, writer Abby Aguirre turned some heads with one particular section of her story.
“Normally I bring a list of questions, but I didn’t have time to prepare one, which I make a split-second decision to confess,” she wrote. “‘I’m winging it, so you have to help me,’ I say nervously. Rihanna flashes a grin that is somehow both reassuring and mischievous. ‘Aren’t we all?’ she says.”
The revelation that Aguirre didn’t have questions prepared for an interview with Rihanna didn’t sit well with a number of people on Twitter.
Seeing the reaction, Aguirre took to Twitter to explain that the Rihanna interview came about so last-minute that she genuinely didn’t have time to prepare any questions, despite all her research ahead of time.
When RIhanna learned of the backlash aimed at Aguirre, she quickly leapt to the writer’s defence.
“Wait, wait, what?” Rihanna told WWD when asked if she was aware of the criticism. “No, no, no, no. That’s gangster. For you to get a call the day before being like, ‘Hey, Rihanna’s in L.A., you wanna do this?’ And show up on the dime and write an incredible article that I’m really proud of and enjoyed reading? She’s badass for that.”
Added RiRi: “If you don’t have to prepare, girl, you’re gangster.”
