Elton John reportedly had concerns over Michael Jackson’s mental wellbeing.
John touches on Jackson’s mindset in the “Rocket Man” singer’s new memoir Me, according to reports published by TMZ. “I’d known Michael since he was 13 or 14,” John reportedly writes. “He was just the most adorable kid you could imagine.”
“At some point in the intervening years, he started sequestering himself away from the world, and away from reality the way Elvis Presley did,” John continues. “God knows what was going on in his head, and God knows what prescription drugs he was being pumped full of.”
“Every time I saw him in his later years I came away thinking the poor guy had totally lost his marbles,” the iconic singer adds. “I don’t mean that in a light-hearted way. He was genuinely mentally ill, a disturbing person to be around.”
John reportedly says he once invited Jackson to a party of his. The King of Pop wandered off and was eventually found playing with John’s housekeeper’s son. “For whatever reason, he couldn’t seem to cope with adult company at all,” John writes.
Me is available for purchase on Oct. 15.
