It’s only been two months since we learned of the existence of SuperM, and the K-pop supergroup instantly cracked number on on the Billboard 200 album chart.
As Billboard reports, in early August it was announced that seven members of K-pop boy bands EXO, NCT 127, SHINee and WayV would be teaming up for the new project, and fans are clearly interested enough to propel the new group’s debut album to the top of the charts.
The group’s first release, SuperM: The 1st Mini Album, dropped on Oct. 4, and during the first week of release sold 168,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., with a whopping 164,000 of those in album sales.
SuperM was announced at Capitol Congress back on Aug. 7, with Capitol Music Group’s Chairman and CEO Steve Barnett and SM founder Lee Soo-man describing the new supergroup as “The Avengers of K-pop.”
The video for the group’s first single, “Jopping”, has garnered some serious interest on YouTube, racking up nearly 28 million views in less than two weeks. Watch:
