Monday’s edition of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” features the first-ever appearance from Howard Stern, and it’s safe to say this was not your average talk show visit.
“This is the pinnacle of my career,” Stern jokingly tells DeGeneres. “You know, I’ve been at this for nearly 40 years, to one day be on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ — this is what it’s all about… daytime television and me. Perfect pairing, it’s unbelievable.”
Stern being Stern, he brought up the fact that “people are giving you grief about this George Bush picture,” referencing the backlash that ensued when she was photographed watching a baseball game with the former Republican president. However, he offered a solution to get people talking about something else.
“People have this picture in their minds of you and George Bush,” he explained. “What you need to do, in my opinion, is take a picture with me, making out with me.”
Stern, who was in Los Angeles last week to inaugurate SiriusXM’s new West Coast studios, also spoke about some of the special guests who dropped by his show during his time in L.A., including such stars as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Green Day, Adam Levine, Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, and a special visit from Seth Rogen and Snoop Dogg.
Describing the weed-loving duo as the “Cheech and Chong for our generation,” Stern explains that he brought the pair together so they could assist one of Stern’s staffers get stoned for the first time, what with recreational marijuana being legal in California.
While Stern has earned a reputation for surprising the hosts of the talk shows he visits, DeGeneres turns the tables and has a surprise for him.
At one point in the conversation, Stern discusses how he proposed to his wife, Beth, during last week’s appearance on pal Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, thinking she would say no to the notion of getting remarried
Instead, she ruined the bit by unexpectedly saying yes, which led DeGeneres to bring out Stern’s wife for an impromptu wedding ceremony — officiated by none other than former “Bachelor” star star Colton Underwood. Watch:
