One “Wheel Of Fortune” contestant had a little fun during his interview with Pat Sajak.
During Tuesday night’s episode of the long-running game show, the host asked trucker Blair Davis about his family and the contestant took it a little too far.
“I’ve been trapped in a loveless marriage for the last 12 years to an old battle-axe named Kim,” Davis began. “She cursed my life with three step-children… and I have one rotten grandson.”
Sajak seemed shocked and let out a laugh, even exclaiming “Yay!” to ease the tension.
But Davis quickly cleared the air, letting the audience and Sajak in on the joke by declaring, “I love ’em like nobody’s business.”
In a subsequent interview with the New York Post, Davis and his wife, Kim, explained that the apparent diss was actually a joking tribute — and not only was she in on the joke, she loved it.
“We are constantly calling each other different names around the house,” said Kim, 49, of her 50-year-old husband’s hilarious remarks, joking that “battle-axe” is “one of the nicer” names they call each other.
“I already knew it was coming,” she said, pointing out that she was in the audience during taping of the show. “Everybody [at home] laughed.”
In fact, she insisted that her husband’s unflattering description came at her request. “We watch the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ all the time and people are always saying, ‘my gorgeous wife’ or ‘my handsome husband,’” she explained. “I told him not to say ‘my gorgeous wife,’ because I didn’t want the audience to think, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s not gorgeous. Why would he say that?’”
Sharing his true feelings with the Post, Blair said: “My wife is extremely intelligent and really beautiful.”
Meanwhile, Kim admitted she was surprised by the response to her husband’s jibes. “We thought cracking jokes was normal,” she said. “Apparently, it’s not.”
