Zach Braff follows in the footsteps of Kristen Bell by launching a Kickstarter for Wish I Was Here, his follow-up to his 2004 breakthrough project Garden State. In his call for backers,  the Scrubs star says: “I was about to sign a typical financing deal in order to get the money… it would have involved making a lot of sacrifices I think would have ultimately hurt the film. I’ve been a backer for several projects on Kickstarter and thought the concept was fascinating and revolutionary for artists and innovators of all kinds. But I didn’t imagine it could work on larger-scale projects. I was wrong.”;

The actor-filmmaker says he was inspired by the overwhelming response to the “Veronica Mars”; project, which reached its goal of $2-million in one day and raised a total of  $5.7-million. “I couldn’t help but think (like I’m sure so many other independent filmmakers did) maybe there is a new way to finance smaller, personal films that didn’t involve signing away all your artistic control,”; he says.

So what is the story about? Well it picks up almost a decade after the first film, although he says it’s not an sequel in story, it’s a sequel in tone,  “It centres around Zach’s character, Aidan Bloom, who he says is: “A struggling actor, father and husband, who, at 35, is still trying to find his identity; a purpose for his life. He and his wife are barely getting by financially and Aidan passes his time by fantasizing about being the great futuristic Space-Knight he’d always dreamed he’d be as a little kid.”;

Launched today he’s hoping to reach $2-million within a month and so far has reached almost $1-million. Watch Zach’s pitch in the video below!
