Craig Morgan was set to appear on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” to perform his heartbreaking song about losing his son three years ago, but what fans (and Morgan) weren’t expecting was a surprise appearance from good friend Blake Shelton.
Earlier in the year, Shelton tweeted out the powerful song “The Father, My Son and The Holy Ghost” noting he would give up his spot on the Billboard charts to get Morgan’s song noticed. It worked because Morgan’s song was then an overnight success hitting the No. 1 spot.
Clarkson surprised Morgan as her “The Voice” co-star showed up where he spoke about how he “lost [his] mind” when hearing the song the first time.
“It is easy to connect that song to anything in your life,” the country superstar said.
Morgan then performed the tribute to his late son in front of Shelton, Clarkson and fellow guest Eva Mendes. There was not a dry eye in the place as he detailed the unimaginable pain he has gone through.
Morgan’s son, Jerry Greer was found dead after a boating accident in 2016. Greer, who was 19 at the time, was being pulled on a raft by a boat when he went flying. He never resurfaced.
