Kelly Clarkson’s “Kellyoke” is fast becoming viewers’ favourite segment of her fledgling daytime talk show, in which she covers a different song each day, and Monday saw the “American Idol” champ take things to a whole other level.
There are few female singers in rock who can match the sheer power of Heart’s Anne Wilson, and Clarkson placed herself in the same league by covering the band’s “Alone”, unleashing her powerful pipes on the 1995 hit.
Clarkson is clearly having the time of her life with her latest “Kelloyke” cover, at one point taking a brief pause before belting out the iconic note that begins the song’s chorus by asking the studio audience, “Y’all ready?”
Overcome by exuberance, she then hands the mic over to a group of women in the audience to tackle the line, “How do I get you alone?”
And while Clarkson can clearly hold her own with the best of them, she’s also an unabashed fan — which she made abundantly clear when she had the opportunity to duet on “True Colors” with Cyndi Lauper last week. Watch:
