It was an emotional evening for country singer Lauren Alaina on Monday’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars”.
One year after her stepfather Sam Ramker passed away from cancer, Alaina danced to her new faith-filled song “The Other Side”, dedicated to her “guardian angel.”
“Don’t you cry for me ’cause I’m in God’s glory / And I can see his face, it’s amazing,” she sings in the spiritual anthem.
The “Ladies In The ’90s” singer and her pro partner Gleb Savchenko earned their highest score yet, delivering a contemporary dance to her deeply personal song.
Before her touching performance, Alaina took to Instagram to share a series of posts honouring Ramker.
“He was always my champion. He was always my No. 1 fan,” she wrote in the caption. “Now he’s my guardian angel.”

He was always my champion. He was always my number one fan. Now he’s my guardian angel. I can’t believe my stepdad has been gone a year today. This is going to be an extremely hard day for my family, but I know Sam is with us and is so proud of us all. I am dancing for you tonight Sammy. I’m giving mom all the biggest hugs she deserves. We miss you. See you on The Other Side.
“The Other Side” follows Alaina’s most recent single “Getting Good”, which is currently playing on country radio.
“I wanted to create a song that did him justice,” she says in a press release in memory of Ramker. “He couldn’t hear me sing without crying because he was so proud of me … I wrote this song so that he can live on, and never be forgotten.”
