Ali Wong was a guest on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to promote her new book and talk the best of times and the scariest of times during her standup career.
Wong recounts performing at a last-minute Dave Chappelle show a few years ago. She was an opener for the veteran comic, and spotted Eddie Murphy in the audience, totally throwing her off her game.
Recently Wong performed at 13 consecutive sold-out shows. Her “Always Be My Maybe” co-star Keanu Reeves came to one night and bought “I’m busy making an eyeball” maternity T-shirt. Wong also mentions that the person selling that shirt was her Harvard Business School graduate husband Justin Hakuta.
The hilarious highlight is Wong talking about her wedding at city hall, and how she chose not to have bridesmaids. The comic describes the nightmarish experiences that are bachelorette parties, emphatically questioning the amount of fake penises that are involved.
Ali also talked about her new book, Dear Girls. The comedian wrote it for her daughters to share her experiences and how she got to where she is today. The book was inspired by a note that Wong’s father wrote before he passed away. Unfortunately, Ali’s young kids won’t be able to read it for a while, as it is “filthy dirty.”
