Asked about whether he feels pressure to live up to his legacy with his upcoming Netflix standup special, Murphy said, “I don’t be worrying about stuff like that.

“I tend to think constructively. If I’m doing something creative, I’m thinking about making it as funny as possible because I want to shut s**t down when I do it. I don’t be thinking like, Oh, what’s gonna happen? What are they gonna say? Are they gonna put me on the YouTube? I don’t know, that’s just part of the world now.”

As for his highly anticipated gig hosting “SNL”, his first since leaving the show’s cast in 1984, Murphy teased that he will be bringing back some of his classic characters.

“I’m gonna do Gumby,” he said, “and I’m trying to figure out some reason to do Velvet Jones. And, uh, Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood,” he continued, referencing his inner-city parody of Mr. Rogers. “And a funny Buckwheat sketch.”

“Saturday Night Live” airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on Global.
