John Krasinski On How He Used The Occasion Of Turning 40 To Raise A Half-Million Dollars For Charity

By Brent Furdyk.

John Krasinski dropped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Friday for the host’s final night of his week-long visit to Brooklyn.

On hand to promote the forthcoming second season of his Amazon Prime Video seres “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”, Krasinski also had some news to share about a challenge he put out to fans in celebration of his 40th birthday on Oct. 20.

That was when the former star of “The Office” took to social media asking fans to make a donation in honour of his milestone birthday to Family Reach, an organization that provides financial support to families with children battling cancer.

Chatting with Kimmel, Krasinski admitted he “wanted to do something good with my 40th birthday, ’cause as I was going over the hill I thought I’d do something nice. So I actually just begged people for money.”

He added: “I thought, if you’re a fan of mine, you deserve to give me money.”

However, he admitted, “in order to get money, I had to do some emotional blackmail,” with Kimmel displaying a Tweet from Krasinski that featured a photo of his wife, Emily Blunt, and Hugh Jackman.

“Correct me if I’m wrong,” quipped Kimmel, “but that seems to be Hugh Jackman putting his tongue in your wife Emily Blunt’s ear.”

“Was it worth it?” asks Kimmel. “Was the whole thing worth it?”

“We made over — thanks to all the people who donated — we had so many amazing people donate,” he replied. “And we made over half-a-million dollars.”
