Your “Us”-inspired Halloween costumes are creeping Jordan Peele out.
Appearing on the red carpet at the Governors Awards alongside star Lupita Nyong’o, the director spoke with Variety about people dressing as the film’s doppelgänger characters, the Tethered, for the holiday.
“Now, in Halloween season, I’ve started receiving a lot of people in Tethered costumes, which, it doesn’t make me comfortable,” Peele said. “You know, I like the fact that the movie is happening, it’s a phenomenon, it’s resonating, it’s iconic — but, I don’t know, there’s something about… it’s like, they’re impersonating the stalkers and sending me stuff.”
He then spoke about Nyong’o’s performance, saying, “She was essentially in character, at the very least in mood, on set at all times as Red, which was already pretty terrifying for me, and pretty magnificent to watch.”
When asked whether he didn’t want people dressing up as the Tethered at all, Peele clarified, “Don’t send me pictures of yourself dressed up as creepy characters.”
“I’m good,” he added.
