Hugh Grant is very clear about whose hands he will and will not shake.
In a new interview with ES Magazine, Said Javid, the U.K.’s chancellor of the exchequer and former culture secretary, claimed that Grant had snubbed him at the London premiere for Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman”.
“I recognized him and put my hand out and said, ‘Lovely to meet you,’ and you know what he does? He refuses to shake my hand,” Javid recalled.
“He says, ‘I am not shaking your hand.’ I am completely shocked. He said, ‘When you were culture secretary, you didn’t support my friends in [anti-media intrusion campaign] Hacked Off.’ I think that is incredibly rude. I wonder if people like Hugh Grant think they are part of the elite and they look down on working-class people no matter what station they reach in life.”

Seeing the story picked up online, Grant responded with his own version of events on Twitter, explaining that he refused to shake Javid’s hand over his treatment of victims of press abuse.
Former Labour MP Paul Dadge also came to Grant’s defence on Twitter, saying Javid deserved to be called out, which Grant then retweeted.
