Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet sneak away for a dance in a newly-released clip from “Little Women”.
In the video, Jo (Ronan) and Laurie (Chalamet) step outside to bust out a few very non-traditional dance moves.
Director Greta Gerwig reunites with her “Lady Bird” stars for the adaptation of the beloved book about a family of tight-knit sisters by Louisa May Alcott.
The “Little Women” cast also includes Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper James Norton and Bob Odenkirk.
In an interview with The Independent, Gerwig explained that she was interested in exploring the underlying androgyny she sees bubbling beneath the surface of the literary classic, which she says is evident in the characters’ names.
“There’s all this neat gender stuff about it, like Laurie is a boy with a girl’s name and Jo is a girl with a boy’s name. I have them the whole movie swap clothing and they are each other’s androgynous twin,” she said.
“[Chalamet] was always the person to play this part for me because he has that — he’s handsome but he’s also beautiful,” Gerwig continued. “And Saoirse is beautiful, but she’s also handsome. To me, he was always the Laurie.”
“Little Women” lands in theatres on Christmas Day.
