‘The Masked Singer Australia’ Accused Of Ripping Off Billie Eilish Cover

“The Masked Singer Australia” is accused of stealing an original arrangement of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy”.

To make it clear, Eilish’s camp is not accusing “The Masked Singer Australia” of ripping off the original song. The band Halocene, comprised of Bradley Amick and Addie Nicole, says the show stole their unique cover of Eilish’s song.

Halocene says the show used the band’s “distinct chord changes — the guitar, the basslines, instrumental melodies, the vocals. Even the ad-libs [and] the shouting at the end” without consultation or credit.

“What they don’t realize is, when they set out to steal our cover arrangement, they also stole from an original song of mine,” Amick explains in the video, which offers side-by-side comparisons.

“’The Masked Singer Australia’ basically purposefully and willingly stole our licensed recording of ‘Bad Guy,’ but they’ve inadvertently stolen from my original song, ‘Why Wait?’” Amick continues.

The video has generated more than 1.1 million views in its first week. A GoFundMe campaign in support of funding legal representation for Halocene is more than one-sixth of the way to its goal.
