Nicolas Cage does what Nicolas Cage does best — become unhinged — in the new trailer for the horror film “Color Out of Space”.
Based on H.P. Lovecraft’s classic short tale, the story involves a family infected by an extraterrestrial organism after a meteorite crashes on their property, turning their lives into something colourful and extraordinary — but in the most horrific ways imaginable. The original story is set in mid-19th century, but the movie brings Cage into the present, updating the setting for a modern audience.
The film, which premiered at TIFF in September, is the first feature from director Richard Stanley in 27 years. Stanley’s career was derailed after he was famously fired from the Val Kilmer-Marlon Brando flop “The Island Of Dr. Moreau” in 1996. His latest project has been in the works since 2013, but was finally put into production when Cage signed on in 2018.
“Color Out of Space” co-stars Joely Richarson, Q’Orianka Kilcher and Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong fame. The horror movie does not yet have a Canadian distributor or release date, but will open in the U.S. on Jan. 24.
