Kathleen Edwards is making her long-awaited comeback.
In 2014, the Canadian country artist announced she was leaving the music industry to open her own coffee shop and perform only occasionally. Now she’s back with a brand-new song just in time for Christmas.
“It’s Christmastime (Let’s Just Survive)” is Edwards’ first new song released in seven years, aside from a 2013 cover of Roxette’s “It Must Have Been Love”.
The new track is featured on the forthcoming holiday compilation album A Dualtone Christmas, which will also feature artists Lone Bellow, Amos Lee, and Delta Spirit, among others.
“It’s that time of the year where you click the radio, and there’s the standard Christmas fare,” Edwards told Rolling Stone. “I was like, ‘None of these are actually what Christmas is like.’ Christmas is a f**king zoo. It’s nuts and it’s not really that fun. It’s just chaos from start to finish. You spend too much. You f**king expect too much. Your parents, there’s always the drama of your dysfunctional f**king family. I was like, ‘How come there are no songs about that?’”
