Eminem is catching heat for an old, unreleased lyric.

Last week, a part of the track “Things Get Worse”, originally recorded for his 2009 album Reprise, was leaked online, revealing a controversial lyric in which the rapper sides with Chris Brown in his infamous assault of Rihanna.

“I’m not playing, Rihanna, where’d you get t he V.D. at?” Eminem raps, “Let me add my two cents / Of course I side with Chris Brown / I’d beat a b***h down, too if she gave my d**k an itch now.”

The lyrics caused a backlash on social media.

Others, though, defended Eminem.

On Monday, Eminem’s rep, Dennis Dennehy, released a statement to XXL responding to the controversy over the lyric, emphasizing that it was never actually released.

“This is a leak of something that’s over 10 years old,” the rep said. “After Eminem recorded it, he scrapped it, and rewrote it. Obviously he and Rihanna have a great relationship.”

Eminem would collaborate with Rihanna on the 2010 track “Love the Way You Lie”, as well as 2012’s “Numb” and 2013’s “The Monster”.
