Sam Hunt Releases Statement After Being Arrested For DUI: ‘It Won’t Happen Again’

Country star Sam Hunt was arrested for DUI in East Nashville early Thursday morning.

WKRN reports the 34-year-old singer was transported to the Metro jail around 6:30 a.m. for driving under the influence and having an open container.

According to the arrest warrant, police were notified of a driver travelling south in the northbound lanes of a Nashville highway. The driver was also seen swerving in and out of his lane.

After arriving on the scene, officers identified the man as Hunt and said he smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. Investigators added there were also two empty beer cans next to him.

Officers explained, when they asked the singer to provide his licence, he attempted to hand over his credit card and passport instead.

Hunt was the only person in the vehicle at the time; court documents reveal he admitted to consuming alcohol “recently.” The arrest warrant indicates the singer had a blood alcohol content of .173.

Hunt was released from jail around 9 a.m. on a $2,500 bond. A court date has been set for Jan. 17, 2020.

The singer then shared an update on Twitter, but had to correct it after originally writing “Thursday.”

He said, “Wednesday night I decided to drive myself home after drinking at a friend’s show in downtown Nashville. It was a poor and selfish decision and I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it. It won’t happen again.”
