Just as this week’s impeachment hearings in Washington, D.C., unfolded along party lines, that’s also how the proceedings are being seen by TV viewers, with Republicans and Democrats coming away with vastly different opinions of what took place.

This has certainly been the case on “The View”, and things came to a head on Friday when Meghan McCain told her co-hosts that she lives “five miles away from MAGA hat people,” who are “not convinced what happened is an impeachable offense.”

“What about the Constitution?” Joy Behar declared. “I have a copy of the Constitution on my nightstand,” McCain retorted. “So please don’t talk to me about the Constitution!”

Behar fired back: “The Constitution belongs to all of us, whether we have it on our nightstand or not… I believe bribery is listed as one of the impeachable offenses, by the founding fathers.”

McCain used the example of Republican Congressman Will Hurd, who said he hasn’t found the evidence presented to be “compelling, overwhelming, clear and unambiguous.”

Sunny Hostin was incredulous. “I think that anyone that was listening heard nine people testify as to what they saw, what they heard, people that have served our country, someone who has a purple heart,” she said before McCain interrupted her.

“He served our country, he’s part of the CIA,” she said of Hurd, a CIA operative before being elected to Congress in 2015.

“I also say it tells me he is complicit, the Republican party has enabled this president and continues to enable this president,” Hostin responded.

“You’re slandering a CIA agent!” McCain interjected.

“He is complicit. I don’t know if it’s about a political future… for him to sit there and say evidence has to be overwhelming and he heard no overwhelming evidence, I want to know which hearings he’s sitting at,” Hostin continued, her remarks eliciting applause from the studio audience.

“It’s easy to get a cheap applause line here, it just is” McCain said dismissively, “And that’s fine, take your cheap applause line.”

Hostin didn’t take that sitting down. “It’s not a cheap applause line,” she said. “Maybe they agree.”

“Let me speak,” McCain interrupted again, with Hostin replying, “You’ve been speaking a lot.”

The segment finally ended when McCain said in disgust, “We have to go to a commercial. Really.”
