Rod Stewart says his friendship with Elton John hasn’t been the same since Stewart made a joke about his “money-grabbing” pal.

In an interview with Scottish Radio, Stewart opened up about their “spat”, which ended over 50-years of friendship.

“I do love Elton, only we’re not talking at the moment. We’ve had a spat,” he explained before being asked how it began. “Because I criticized his tour as being money-grabbing.”

Last March, Stewart slammed John’s latest farewell tour, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour” telling Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live”, “It stinks of selling tickets.”

But during a talk show, Stewart said he tried to reconnect, “I did email her [Sir Elton] and said, ‘What, again dear?’ And, I didn’t hear anything back.”

He added: “I’ve never spoken about retirement, and if I do retire, I won’t make an announcement. I’ll just fade away.”

John will bring his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour to Toronto on March 28 and 29.
