Oscar Isaac was prepared to say goodbye to “Star Wars” on his last day of filming “The Rise Of Skywalker”, but it ended up being even more special when he found out is was also Anthony Daniels’ last day on set.
When filming wrapped, he started to give a heartfelt speech, he recalls on Sirius XM’s “EW Live” in the video above.
“I started getting kind of emotional… and I could see J.J. [Abrams] being like, ‘Wrap it up.’ I was like, ‘Oh, oh okay,'” he remembers, taken aback by it. “And he was like, ‘Because actually we also have Anthony Daniels‘ last day.’ Which is like way bigger of a deal because Anthony has been in every ‘Star Wars‘ movie.”

Daniels, 73, has appeared as C-3PO in every “Star Wars” movie including in many of the animated TV series. Isaac, 40, is a relative newcomer, by comparison, joining the “Star Wars” family in 2015 with “The Force Awakens” as pilot Poe Dameron.
“Totally stole my thunder on my big wrap speech,” Isaac jokes, calling himself the “opening act” before turning serious as he describes the weight of watching Daniels bid farewell to the galaxy far, far away.
“But to be there and to hear Anthony Daniels say goodbye to ‘Star Wars’, who is the one person who has been in all of them including, I think, most of the cartoons – he is ‘Star Wars’. For me, in any of those scenes, when I was working with Anthony, that’s when it would really hit home that he is the one link that would really made me feel like this is part of a great, great legacy,” he continues, adding, “To be the guy that wrapped right before he did and to hear him say goodbye was really special.”

Isaac reveals Daniels said “how much he loved JJ and thanked him” for being the one to the “steward of the final chapter” which ends the Skywalker saga.
“It was really beautiful to watch,” he adds.
“Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker” arrives in theatres on Dec. 20.
