DC Comics is facing a backlash from fans after deleting a poster for the new “Batman” comic “Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child”.

The image shared on Instagram showed the Caped Crusader throwing a Molotov cocktail, with the words: “The future is young” written in the background.

The post was criticized by Chinese social media users, who accused DC of supporting the Hong Kong pro-democracy protests.

One Weibo user previously wrote, according to Variety: “The black clothes represent Hong Kong, the mask represents Hong Kong, the Molotov cocktail represents Hong Kong, what else here doesn’t represent Hong Kong???”

“No matter what the reason, to put an image like this up at a sensitive time like this means you have a death wish,” another added.

ET Canada has contacted DC Comics for a comment.

“Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child,” is due to hit shelves Dec. 11.
