“This will be the final word in the story of Skywalker,” declares Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) in a new TV spot for “Star Wars: The Last Skywalker”, the final film in the third trilogy of the saga that George Lucas began in 1977.
The trailer begins with a roiling ocean, quickly cutting to Rey (Daisy Ridley) walking aboard a vessel, lightsaber in hand as Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) emerges from the mist and rain, striding purposefully toward her with his lightsaber.
The trailer then cuts to a chase through a desert, followed by Imperial and Rebel ships firing at each other while speeding through a tunnel, then a massive Imperial fleet assembled for what promises to be an epic final battle.

Meanwhile, the film’s director, J.J. Abrams, earlier revealed that he’s been racing against the clock to meet the film’s upcoming premiere date.
“So much is still being worked on,” Abrams told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s literally a practical race to get it finished.”
Assuming that race is won, look for “Star Wars: The Last Skywalker” to hit theatres on Dec. 20.
