Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig honoured Laura Dern in the best way possible.
At the IFP Gotham Awards Monday night, Baumbach and Gerwig presented the actress with an award, rocking what they called “Laura Dern sweaters” for the occasion.
“Noah and I have been looking for an excuse to wear our Laura Dern sweaters. Luckily this came along,” said Gerwig alongside her boyfriend. “Noah and I sometimes get competitive about who loves Laura Dern more, and who Laura Dern loves more out of us.
The two filmmakers share Dern in each of their latest movies. In “Marriage Story”, directed by Baumbach, the actress plays a ruthless divorce attorney. She’s also featured in Gerwig’s star-studded “Little Women” remake.
“I’m going to read Noah’s speech and he’s going to read mine, that way at the party afterward when we ask her ‘Whose speech did you like better?’ it’s too confusing to answer.”
It was also a big night for Baumbach, who took home four awards, including Best Feature for “Marriage Story”.
This year’s honourees at the Gotham Awards also included Ava DuVernay, Sam Rockwell, FilmNation chief executive Glen Basner, and Jason DaSilva, a filmmaker and disability rights activist.
